Key to any businesses survival through the ages, and even more important in difficult times is Innovation. Once thought of as a business-only issue, in recent years IT has played an ever more crucial role. Whether it is in the use of technology, the software provided or the structure that supports the whole organisation, IT Departments are becoming more innovative.
So how do you encourage innovation in your teams, what processes are followed and how do you deliver the end result efficiently and on-time?
This workshop will consist of three award-winning case-study presentations from project teams on how they injected innovation into their IT services.
SABIC UK Petrochemicals
The project team realised that advances in technology meant they could change some of the ways which IT worked - to deliver cost and process efficiencies and bottom-line benefit. Starting at the beginning of the story, SABIC took an innovative approach to the development of the project, enabling the relationship between the business and IT to thrive and building a platform for translating ideas into initiatives. Working in this way was a new concept for the organisation, so there wasn't a set process for them to follow. This presentation will talk of their journey, lessons learned and what they hope for the future.
Co-operative Financial Services (CFS)
In their own words "Innovation needs the right conditions to flourish". The CFS project aimed to;
- Develop a compelling 'sense of purpose' for their people,
- Create the enabling environment that encouraged their people to be 'Good with Ideas' (the name of the project),
- Leverage knowledge & expertise to provide business customers with 'improved ways of working through IT'.
The CFS session will take you through the processes they used for ideas generation, what this has done for them as a business and how they measure success and the outcomes achieved.
Virgin Atlantic Airways
Innovation is critical to Virgin Atlantic as a business, by being different to their competitors they can stay ahead of the game. As such the IT department runs a 3 person IT Lite project team, which has so far been a total success, ensuring projects are delivered in an agile fashion, cost savings have been made and the ROI is extremely significant. This presentation, the final case study of the day, will cover Virgin's leadership, governance, processes and models - which have all played their equal part in ensuring the success of innovation in the organisation.
